Roman Bridge

Return to Previous Page

The Roman bridge over Rio Guandiana was begun at the founding of Augusta Emerita. It is 2600 feet long, and rises about 40 feet above the river. It has undergone numerous renovations, the most recent in the 19th century. When a new bridge was opened in 1993, this bridge was converted to pedestrian-only use.
